Organisational Identity and Self-Transformation

An Autopoietic Perspective
Book Hero Magic crafted this summary to help describe this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Summary
David Seidl explores the intertwining themes of organizational identity and autopoietic organisation theory, originally developed by Niklas Luhmann. The book begins with a detailed introduction to Luhmann's theory, setting the foundation for a new conceptualisation of organisational identity. It then advances a theory of organisational self-transformation, focusing on how organisations change their identity over time. This work is pivotal for organisation theorists and researchers interested in novel frameworks for understanding organisational dynamics.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

David Seidl brings together two important issues in organisation and management studies in this volume: the concept and related theory of organisational identity, and autopoietic organisation theory (as originally developed by Niklas Luhmann).

The contribution of the book is twofold: it provides an introduction to autopoietic organisation theory and it offers a new perspective on organisational identity and self-transformation. Thus, the book is relevant to both organisation theorists interested in new approaches to organisation and to researchers of organisational identity.

The themes are reflected in the structure of the book. Chapters one and two provide an introduction to Niklas Luhmann's organisation theory. Based on this, chapter three develops a new concept of organisational identity. In chapters four and five, a theory of organisational self-transformation (i.e. change of identity) is developed.

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

Professor John Mingers of the University of Kent praises the book as an excellent resource offering fresh perspectives on organisation theory and Luhmannโ€™s social theory. Professor Dirk Baecker of the University of Witten/Herdecke highlights Seidlโ€™s success in integrating determinate and indeterminate aspects of organisational identity, advancing classical theories toward a postclassical view. The book is recognised for its systematic and meticulous analysis of organisational systems and the social context of autopoiesis.
