My Great Success and Other Failures by Catherine Wilkins follows the story of Jess, whose cartoons are finally starting to take off. A local comic store wants to use them in a campaign, putting her on the brink of becoming quite famous (at least, at school).

This burgeoning success, however, leads to tensions with her friends. Jess can't understand why people can't simply be happy for her. It's not as if success is going to her head, or anything. Or actually, that it's anything like success at all.
