See moreNita is standing in a graveyard. The early morning fog is keeping the sun at bay, and a light mist is falling upon her. She is, once again, mourning for a loss. Only two months ago, she was standing before this permanent home, made of concrete, for Betty and Micky.
Micky and Betty were travelling to their camp in Mississippi. Betty, as usual, was instructing Micky about things he needed to do once they arrived. Suddenly, Micky noticed an 18-wheeler travelling, out of control, West on I-10. The truck crossed the median, trailer sliding sideways, and the cab headed straight for Micky’s jeep. The cab of the truck hit them head on, killing both, Micky and Betty, instantly. Fortunately, Betty was making notes on her phone and didn't know what hit her.
As Nita stood there, she thought, 'How could such a thing happen? Only eight months ago, Betty was on a trip with her and Lou.' Nita's mind slowly drifts into the thick fog that surrounds her. She's daydreaming, with a smile on her face, about the two-week trip. They had so much fun and laughed so hard.
Their trip to D.C. via Louisiana by way of the East Coast starts on a bright sunny Friday morning, March 4th of 2011, from their little hometown of Delcambre, Louisiana.
The only plan made for this trip was the date and time to leave their hometown, which was no later than ten o'clock. However, filled with excitement, not one of them could sleep that Thursday night. Lou Calmer and Betty Right have never travelled the East Coast. Fortunately, Nita and her husband, Archie Noall, have travelled this route once before. Nita was so excited to be the guide for her two friends.
