Limited Cities

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Limited Cities is a collection that captures the peculiarities of place, zeroing in on the city and its outlying suburbs, with vast housing estates, shopping malls, and highways. Picture a landscape 'where silent graffiti haunts the midday breeze where spring rain cuts through the sun and a rottweiler sleeps outside the doors of the supermarket'.

These Australian scenes form a tapestry set against their various European counterparts. The collection includes rhapsodies on the Parisian banlieues during Advent and Lent, a series of Venetian 'postcards', and list-poems set in Barcelona. Each poem offers a clear and remarkable depiction of the suburban landscape, discovering grace in often overlooked or derided elements.

Lachlan Brown, the author, was shortlisted for the Blake Poetry Prize and is a recipient of a Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship. He also teaches literature at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga.
