The artist behind the iconic cover is Hokusai, a celebrated figure in Japanese ukiyo-e painting and printmaking. The most notable period in his artistic life was the latter part of his career, beginning in 1830 when he was 70 years old. During this time, he initiated the series of landscapes he is most famous for, "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji," which included his most iconic image, The Great Wave, off Kanagawa.
