History, Memory and Public Life

The Past in the Present
Book Hero Magic crafted this summary to help describe this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Summary
History, Memory and Public Life explores how historical expertise shapes contemporary public reflection on the past. The book is divided into two parts: the first addresses theoretical and methodological issues in historical memory studies, including postcolonialism, sites of memory, national origin myths, and memorialisation. The second part presents case studies on difficult, contested memories such as the Northern Ireland Troubles, post-apartheid South Africa, and the Holocaust, revealing how history and memory intersect in public life.
