An evocative photographic portrait of country footy and the role it plays in connecting communities across Australia – the people, the players, the places, the competition, the colour, the camaraderie, the emotion, the humour – and the deep connection that binds them all together.

Photographer Cory White documents grass-roots footy from around Australia from Kalgoorlie to Cairns, and Darwin to Queenstown. At once moving and joyful, his photographs evoke a sense of togetherness, competitiveness and pride, while highlighting the beauty of Australia’s diverse natural settings.

Accompanied by observations from players, supporters and beloved identities, including original contributions from Brisbane Lions’ AFLW midfielder Ally Anderson, Brisbane Broncos’ NRLW lock Keilee Joseph, musician Tim Rogers and Coodabeen Champions Ian Cover and Jeff Richardson, Footy Country is an evocative portrait of the interconnectedness of football and Australian lives – a connection that goes to the very heart of what it means to be an Australian.
