Firefly Wedding, Vol. 1 by Oreco Tachibana explores the tumultuous life of Satoko, a Meiji-era noblewoman bound by duty to marry into nobility, yet unable to escape the deadly attentions of an assassin.

Satoko is afflicted with a heart condition and is determined to secure a marriage that will benefit her family before her time runs out. However, before she can achieve this goal, she becomes the target of a mysterious assassin named Shinpei. In a desperate attempt to save her own life, Satoko proposes marriage to her would-be murderer. Although her proposal is insincere, it turns out that Shinpei loves with the same intensity with which he kills. Satoko is then faced with the challenge of breaking off the engagement without losing her life.

On the surface, Satoko seems to have it all—beauty, noble lineage, and a perfect age for marriage. Unfortunately, her grave illness means her time is limited. Just as she is about to secure a beneficial marriage that would raise her family's standing, the unexpected threat of Shinpei puts all her plans at risk. In her bid to survive, she makes an impulsive proposal of marriage. Unbeknownst to her, when it comes to love, Shinpei takes “until death do we part” very seriously.
