Join Little Critter as he learns why it’s important to be thankful for what he has---not to be upset about what he doesn't. Since 1975, Mercer Mayer has been writing and illustrating stories about Little Critter and the antics he stumbles into while growing up.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Being Thankful by Mercer Mayer is a heartwarming tale that teaches children about the power of gratitude through the delightful adventures of Little Critter. In this charming story, Little Critter finds himself constantly comparing what he has to what his friends possess and feels disappointed. Gator sports brand-new, flashy sneakers, while Little Critter is left with his plain blue ones. Tiger’s dad owns a boat, something Little Critter's dad doesn't have. Even indulging at the ice cream shop doesn't bring joy, as Little Critter’s chocolate ice cream cone pales in comparison to the enormous sundae he desires.

A turning point comes as Grandma takes Little Critter on a memorable trip to the farm. With her gentle guidance, she helps him see the blessings he has been overlooking. Through her wisdom, Little Critter learns the beauty of being thankful, realising that a grateful heart can transform any situation into a joyful one.

Being Thankful not only captures the relatable struggles of envy and discontent but also offers a profound lesson on finding happiness in everyday blessings. Inspired by Psalm 107:1, this book aims to instill a spirit of gratitude in young minds, helping children ages 3 to 6 to:

  • Understand what gratitude is and why it is important to be thankful for all of God's blessings.
  • Recognise how their actions and manners impact others.
  • Learn ways to share thankfulness with others.

Since 1975, Mercer Mayer has been enchanting audiences with the adventures of Little Critter, a character that humorously navigates the complexities of growing up. By partnering with Tommy Nelson, these stories now also embrace faith-based themes, addressing social and emotional issues with a Christian perspective.

Families will find themselves returning to this delightful story time and again, discovering new lessons with each read. Additionally, the Inspired Kids series featuring Little Critter offers more valuable insights and teachings in other beloved titles such as:

  • It's True
  • We All Need Forgiveness
  • You Go First

Being Thankful is more than just a story; it is a timeless lesson wrapped in the enchanting world of Little Critter, making it a must-read for any child learning the importance of gratitude.
