"Are You a N****r or a Doctor?"
Dr. Stallworth, the author, was born and reared in Birmingham, Alabama, during the 1940s, 50s, and early 60s, a city characterised during those years by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as "the most segregated city in America."
He crossed the Alabama state line for the first time at age 16 in 1962 to attend Howard University in Washington, D.C., and became the first college graduate in his family.
The details of Dr. Stallworth's life are evocative of friendships, falling in love, and marriages; and a great variety of occupations ranging from discovering and managing a famous music group to driving a city bus on his first trip to Chicago, to becoming a doctor.
His writing style is clear and effective, quirky and compelling, especially in the description of friendships from early childhood on and falling in love. The humorous stories are engaging, too. There are sad times described, alongside traumas and problems, but Dr. Stallworth imparts these with a full range of emotions, enabling the reader to truly feel his experiences.
Probably more importantly, the reader can learn from Are You a Nr or a Doctor?

About the Author
Dr. Stallworth was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama during the 1940s, 50s, and early 60s. He crossed the Alabama state line for the first time at 16 to attend college, before receiving a medical degree at 24 years old. And completed his medical internship at Case Western Reserve Youngstown Hospital Association, his anesthesiology residency at UCLA-Harbor General Hospital, and received a Master of Business Administration degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills.
He served as Chief of Anesthesiology at Hawthorne Community Hospital and Robert F. Kennedy Medical Center in Hawthorne California. In addition, he owned and operated the Otto E. Stallworth Jr. MD Pain Management Center and the Hickman Pain and Stress Management Center in Santa Monica, California.
Outside of medicine, he had several businesses, including Oh Yes! Management, Oh Yes! Business Management, and Hollywood Fries Restaurant.
At his personal management company, Oh Yes! Management, he discovered and secured a record deal for Taste of Honey, the first Black artist in the 22-year history of the Grammys to win the award for Best New Artist, for their song "Boogie Oogie Oogie."
Created the Hollywood Fries Restaurant, which was open for seven years in Westwood with partners Hollywood Casting Director Reuben Cannon, actor Danny Glover, and Pepsi executive Olden Lee.
Dr. Stallworth began a slow retirement in 2016 and pursued his hidden love for writing through a Master of Fine Arts program at UCLA. He did not complete the program after his first year because of a short-term illness, but in his time there, he completed a screenplay, "Murder at BeautyWorld", the title of his next book, a fictional novel.
In 2018, Denise Nicholas, award-winning actress and author of acclaimed book "Freshwater Road," invited him to join her Longwood Writers' Workshop, where his memoir, "Are you A N****r or a Doctor," was conceived, and then delivered on December 22, 2022.
In early 2022, he began a non-profit foundation, the Stallworth OhYes! Foundation, which awarded four-year full scholarships to students at Howard University in Washington, D.C. and Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, his alma maters.
His goal is to award many more scholarships from donations to the Stallworth OhYes! Foundation.
