An ode to post-punk San Francisco through the eyes of a Mexican American girl.
Michelle Ruiz Keil's YA fantasy debut about love, found family, and healing is an ode to post-punk San Francisco through the eyes of a Mexican-American girl.
All of Us with Wings by Michelle Ruiz Keil is a YA fantasy debut about love, found family, and healing. This novel serves as an ode to post-punk San Francisco, seen through the eyes of a Mexican-American girl.
Seventeen-year-old Xochi finds herself alone in San Francisco, fleeing from a painful past—the mother who abandoned her and the man who betrayed her. Her life changes when she meets Pallas, a precocious twelve-year-old living with her rockstar family in one of the city's storybook Victorian houses. Xochi accepts a position as Pallas's live-in governess and soon becomes part of the girl's tight-knit household. The family, despite their growing fame, embraces a free-love philosophy filled with easy warmth.
On the night of the Vernal Equinox, during a concert afterparty below, Xochi and Pallas conduct a riot-grrrl ritual in good fun, inadvertently summoning ancient beings intent on avenging the wrongs of Xochi's past. Desperate to preserve her newfound life, Xochi faces a dilemma as these creatures seek vengeance on those who have caused her pain. The safety of both the family Xochi has chosen and the one she left behind is at risk.
