A Woman Made of Snow
A gorgeous, haunting and captivating novel of a century-long family mystery in the wilds of Scotland, and one woman's hunt for the truth.
A Woman Made of Snow by Elisabeth Gifford takes readers to Scotland in 1949, where Caroline Gillan and her new husband, Alasdair, have returned to his dilapidated family estate, Kelly Castle, situated in the middle of nowhere. As Caroline struggles with the responsibilities of caring for their tiny baby and dealing with her opinionated mother-in-law, she feels adrift, alone, and unwelcome.
However, when Caroline is tasked with sorting through the family archives, she stumbles upon a century-old mystery that reignites her spirit. She discovers the existence of a Gillan bride who remains completely unknown. There are no photos, no recordsβonly the certainty that she bore a legitimate child, Alasdair's grandmother.
As Caroline delves deeper, uncovering a strange story that extends to the Arctic Circle, her quest for the truth becomes an obsession. The discovery of a body in the castle grounds transforms her hunt from mere curiosity into something far more crucial. What happened all those years ago? Who was this mysterious bride? And who was responsible for her murder?
