Description

A Scrap of Moss and Magick is a gothic middle grade fantasy set in an alternate nineteenth-century Britain.

Thirza, a maidservant with magical powers, believes she is helping to cure orphan heiress Cecily with the medicine that Cecily's uncle, Lord Wulfric, has given her. But when she discovers that Lord Wulfric means to murder Cecily to get his hands on her fortune, and that she herself is a golem created to do his evil bidding, Thirza must wrestle with her own identity to save Cecily and herself.

Evil Uncle Wulfric made a mistake when he created Thirza, our delightful golem protagonist. He gave her too much magic and didn't prepare for the fact that she had free will and a soul. Something she fights to believe in the face of his rhetoric. Wulfric desires all the power and needs to do away with his young niece to reign supreme. What he didn't bargain for was the true friendship that emerges between the niece, Cecily, and the golem servant girl, Thirza.

Talking birds, missing magical aunts locked away in asylums and the unbridled goodness of those around them come to the rescue, and together they end up defeating all things evil!

About the Author

Helen Parry grew up in an old house on a hill in Ipswich, where she spent most of her time reading, searching for magic portals and casting spells that never quite worked. She studied literature at university, worked in publishing in London and lived for a couple of years in Nigeria before moving to Belgium. She now lives there with her family, some hens and the two most spoilt cats in the universe. When she isn't daydreaming or writing, she teaches English to adults. A Scrap of Moss & Magick is her first book.
