Space by Tim Peake provides an enthralling and comprehensive exploration into the history and future of human space travel. From the pioneering days of the Apollo missions to our imaginative ventures towards Mars, Tim Peake captures the daring spirit of astronauts and their transcendent journeys beyond Earth's bounds.

This inspirational account traces the extraordinary lives of the mere 656 individuals who have ventured into space, highlighting key figures like Yuri Gagarin, Neil Armstrong, Valentina Tereshkova, and Peggy Whitson. Peake skilfully blends exclusive new stories with his unique perspective as an astronaut, presenting an intimate look at what space exploration truly entails. Readers will discover nuanced details including the awe-inspiring view of Earth, the otherworldly sensation of weightlessness, the omnipresent danger, and the often-quirky aspects of life in microgravity.

More than just a collection of anecdotes, Space delves into the rigorous preparations required by astronauts. It exposes the intense psychological pressures, the arduous physical demands, the exhilarating thrill of launch, and the nerve-wracking anticipation of re-entry. Through thorough research and personal encounters with seven Apollo astronauts, Russian cosmonauts, and other space pioneers, Peake paints a vivid picture of the dedication, sacrifice, and heroism embedded in space travel.

Moreover, Space poignantly addresses the impact of space exploration on astronauts' lives upon their return to Earth. These remarkable stories reflect the profound and often surprising ways their terrestrial existence is altered as they strive to readjust to life under gravity.

Tim Peake’s compelling narrative is timely, coinciding with NASA's ambitious Artemis missions, aiming to return astronauts to the moon and eventually send humans to Mars. Peake's insights into these contemporary missions raise fascinating questions: How will the Artemis crews, set to include the first woman and the first person of colour to walk on the lunar surface, differentiate from the legendary Apollo astronauts? What characteristics are required in today’s astronauts, and how will our understanding of space travel evolve as we push further into the cosmos?

This book has garnered praise from various quarters for its comprehensive and engaging approach:

"This book is brilliant - once in a blue moon. A book for the whole family." - Chris Evans, Virgin Radio

"The most wonderful book ... Tim Peake is a historian and encyclopaedia of space." - Rory Stewart

"An extraordinary book. For anyone - even if you're not interested in Space. If you're interested in human stories and the human character - this is delightful." - BBC Breakfast

"A fascinating, detailed, playful book drawn from extensive research - Peake met seven Apollo astronauts, Russian cosmonauts and various other space technicians - as well as his considerable personal experience. Lifts the lid on what space is like - the dedication and sacrifice; the politics and pantomime; the practicalities and the peril; the glory and fame; the adjustment back to normal life." - iPaper

"A thrilling human history of space." - Daily Mirror

"The bible of space travel." - Chris Moyles, Radio X

Seen alongside the major TV series "Secrets of Our Universe with Tim Peake", this book is not just a journey through space but a tribute to the human spirit's enduring quest for knowledge and adventure. Space is a must-read for enthusiasts of space exploration, history buffs, and anyone fascinated by the boundless potential of human endeavour.
