All books, no matter their binding, will fall to dust. The stories they carry may last longer. They might outlive the paper, the library, even the language in which they were first written. The greatest story can reach the stars and The Book That Wouldn't Burn explores the infinite power of stories and their ability to transcend time and space.

Author Mark Lawrence, known for his gripping tales like Prince of Thorns, introduces us to Evar and Livira—two individuals whose lives couldn't be more different. Evar has lived his entire life confined within a colossal library, a labyrinthine structure older than empires and broader than cities. His world is one of endless books and ancient knowledge.

On the other hand, Livira's existence is rooted in a tiny settlement on the Dust, a barren wasteland where nightmares are real and dangers lurk in every shadow. Her life has been one of survival and grim reality, a stark contrast to Evar's cloistered world of books.

The world has never taken notice of them. That's about to change.

As Evar and Livira's stories intertwine, weaving through different worlds and times, both will uncover monumental secrets about themselves and the universe they inhabit. Their journey becomes a tapestry of truth and deception, heart and hardship, with the lines between these elements blurring in unexpected ways. Blood will be spilled, cities will burn, and through it all, the essence of their stories will shine—mighty as the pen yet haunted by the sword.

The Book That Wouldn't Burn is not just a story; it is a journey through the power of narrative itself, exploring how stories shape and define us, and how they can ultimately change the world.

About the Author

Mark Lawrence was born in Champagne-Urbanan, Illinois, to British parents but moved to the UK at the age of one. He went back to the US after taking a PhD in mathematics at Imperial College to work on a variety of research projects including the 'Star Wars' missile defence programme. Returning to the UK, he has worked mainly on image processing and decision/reasoning theory. He says he never had any ambition to be a writer so was very surprised when a half-hearted attempt to find an agent turned into a global publishing deal overnight. His first trilogy, The Broken Empire, has been universally acclaimed as a ground-breaking work of fantasy, and both Emperor of Thorns and The Liar's Key have won the Gemmell Legend award for best fantasy novel. Mark is married, with four children, and lives in Bristol.
