Akane-banashi, Vol. 2
Akane takes on the world of rakugo to avenge her father!
Akane-banashi, Vol. 2 by Yuki Suenaga takes readers into the captivating world of rakugo—a traditional Japanese art of storytelling. The narrative unfolds with Shinta Arakawa, whose ultimate ambition is to pass his shin’uchi exam, propelling him to the status of a top-rank headliner and master storyteller. His daughter, Akane Osaki, is his most devoted fan; she secretly observes his practices, mastering his routines alongside him.
However, when rakugo master Issho Arakawa expels all participants after the exam without explanation, Akane becomes driven by a single mission: to avenge her father and validate the artistry that truly deserves the shin’uchi title.
Akane is given a significant opportunity when she joins her senior apprentice, Kyoji, to perform at a retirement home. As his zenza opening act, Akane's challenge is to deliver a rakugo performance that captivates the audience. This task is crucial to demonstrate her growth from training under Kyoji.
Later, Akane discovers a rakugo competition specifically for students, with Issho Arakawa—her father's expeller—serving as the judge. Determined to compete, Akane must seek approval from Master Shiguma. He grants her permission, albeit under one peculiar condition: she must perform the tongue-twister “Jugemu.”
