A landmark in modern literature, Animal Farm by George Orwell is a timeless fable about the dangers of power and corruption. The story begins with Mr Jones, the negligent and frequently intoxicated owner of Manor Farm, who fails to care for his animals. Incited by the pigs Napoleon and Snowball, the animals revolt, oust Mr Jones, and seize control of the farm.

In the aftermath of their successful uprising, the animals rename the farm "Animal Farm" and embrace a set of principles aimed at creating an egalitarian society. Inspired by ideals meant to benefit all creatures who walk on four legs, they vow to eliminate the injustices they had suffered under human rule. However, as the farm develops under animal control, the vision of a utopian society begins to deteriorate.

Gradually, the pigs begin to assume leadership roles, and the farm’s initial egalitarianism is subverted by the unequal distribution of power. The once-promising revolution leads to a regime that becomes indistinguishable from the tyranny it replaced. Orwell masterfully chronicles how noble ideals can be twisted into oppression and how power can corrupt even the most virtuous of leaders.

With its incisive social commentary and profound political allegory, Animal Farm remains relevant today, mirroring real-world events where revolutionary aspirations often give way to the same corrupt governance they sought to overthrow. About the Author

Eric Arthur Blair (1903-1950), better known by his pen-name, George Orwell, was born in India, where his father worked for the Civil Service. An author and journalist, Orwell was one of the most prominent and influential figures in twentieth-century literature. His unique political allegory Animal Farm was published in 1945, and it was this novel, together with the dystopia of Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949), which brought him world-wide fame. His novels and non-fiction include Burmese Days, Down and Out in Paris and London, The Road to Wigan Pier and Homage to Catalonia.
