The Island by M A Bennett follows the story of Link, a young boy who is a fish out of water. Newly arrived from America, he struggles to settle into the venerable and prestigious Osney School. It’s a place filled with strange traditions and bizarre practices, such as ranking students by how fast they can run around the school quad—no matter how ancient that quad may be. Unfortunately for Link, his slowest time in years turns him into the butt of every school joke, with certain students determined to make his life even more miserable.

When a school summer trip is announced, Link dreads the thought of spending additional time with his worst tormentors. However, his parents give him an ultimatum: he can only leave Osney School for good if he participates in the trip. Driven by the prospect of escaping for good, Link grudgingly agrees to endure it. But this trip will test his endurance in more ways than he anticipated.

The famous saying goes, 'No man is an island', but what happens when a group of teenagers, none of whom particularly like each other, end up isolated on an island? As oppressive heat, hunger, and thirst begin to take their toll, everyone’s true colours are revealed. Let the battle commence...
