Ripped from the pages of Empire magazine, the first collection of film critic, film historian and novelist Kim Newman's reviews of the best and worst B movies.
Video Dungeon is the first collection of film critic, film historian, and novelist Kim Newman's full reviews of the best and worst B movies. These reviews are inspired by his legendary Empire column of the same name, which appears every month in the UK's largest film specialty magazine.
With themed chapters covering new films and re-releases, from AfterDeath to Zombie Shark, and from 1915βs Les Vampires to 2016βs The Shallows, over 500 of the cheapest, trashiest, goriest, and, occasionally, unexpectedly good films released for the home entertainment market are covered here. These films are torn apart and stitched back together again in Kim's unique style.
Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?
Critics praise Video Dungeon for its wit and authoritative voice. Dread Central calls it "one dungeon you will want to be locked in for a very long time." Cinema Retro highlights its "gleeful sense of humour for the absurd," while The Film Stage notes Newman makes even the oddest films sound appealing. Film Phreak describes the collection as "wickedly eclectic," and Girl Who Reads recommends it as "a good reference for collectors of various horror movies." Manhattan Book Review compares it favourably to Roger Ebert's worst-movie collections, calling it "great fun" and a fantastic way to discover obscure films.
