WATERSTONES BEST FICTION BOOKS OF 2023 PICK

WOMAN & HOME NOVEMBER BOOK OF THE MONTH

iPaper TOP FICTION PICK

Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop by Hwang Bo-reum is a magical tale of new beginnings and the healing power of books. The novel follows the life of Yeongju, a woman who seemingly had it all—a university degree, a respectable job, and a good marriage. But when her life unexpectedly crumbles, Yeongju must find a way to rebuild and rediscover herself. Deciding to leave her corporate career behind, she takes a brave leap of faith and opens a charming bookshop in a quaint neighbourhood in Seoul.

As customers pass through the doors of Yeongju's bookshop, they each bring their own stories of heartache and disillusionment. From a lonely barista to an unhappily married coffee roaster, the shop naturally becomes a refuge for those seeking solace and understanding. Among them is a writer who sees something special in Yeongju and becomes one of her most ardent supporters. Together, these characters find comfort and acceptance, learning to live fully through the connections they form with each other and the books that fill the shelves.

The Hyunam-dong Bookshop is more than just a place to buy books; it is a haven where lives are transformed. Through Yeongju's eyes, readers experience a heart-warming journey that highlights the profound impact of community and the joys of following one's passion.
