See moreA Modern Path to Insight Based on the Ancient Foundations of Mindfulness.
Train your mind for tranquillity and focus with this fresh, secular guide to mindfulness using the Buddha's original teachings.
Brain Training with the Buddha by Eric Harrison is not about Buddhism per se, nor is it rooted in any religious belief. Harrison's lifelong mindfulness practice is centred around the Satipatthana Sutta, the Buddha's original text on how to meditate. He realised that the clearly defined steps in the sutta, even without their spiritual context, amount to a brain-training programme anyone can follow. As the Buddha puts it: "The systematic four-stage training of attention is the only way to Enlightenment."
Now, informed by a lifetime spent teaching tens of thousands to meditate, Harrison offers an updated, modern English translation of the sutta and provides lucid guidance on how to apply it. This accessible work is for anyone interested in their mind, body, and overall life—no background in Buddhism required.
Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?
Eric Harrison's Brain Training with the Buddha is appreciated for its ability to engage both Buddhist meditators and secular mindfulness practitioners, exploring the intersections and differences between the two. The book helps readers understand their views on mindfulness, and its translation of the Satipatthana Sutta is noted for accessibility and provoking thoughtful reflection.
