Celebrity Book Clubs and July's Book Picks!

Celebrities and Bookclubs go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly, so we've rounded up all the big ones for you along with their picks this month!

Ever wanted to be in a book club with your favourite celebrity? Well now you can! We've got you covered with the biggest names and the July book picks in celebrity book clubs - from the OGs Oprah and Reese, to our new fave book bestie (or so we like to think) Dua Lipa!

Dua Lipa and Service 95 Book Club

Dua Lipa has become one of our recent favourites after she started her own library dedicated to banned books, and with her incredible monthly book club selections. Service 95 is her editorial platform where she hosts her book club.

Free by Lea Ypi

For July, Dua Lipa has chosen a memoir about community and hope, published a couple of years ago but as relevant as ever in it's captivating storytelling about life in Albania.

Set against the backdrop of dramatic political upheaval, Lea Ypi shares what it was like to have a home amongst destruction and seismic shifts, w hat it was to come of age in one of the most isolated countries on earth.

“Free revealed things to me about a country I know and love well. The history is so recent, but the lived experience has changed so much in just one generation. What an era to live through, what an education to share.” – Dua Lipa

Read With Jenna Book Club

This book club is hosted by Jenna Bush Hager, the co-host of the Today Show. It launched a few years back in 2019 and continues to propel books into fame with the diverse selections each month.

For July Jenna chose a sumptuous summer read, The Shampoo Effect and says that it will fill readers with old memories, and be the perfect read for summer adventures (although you can absolutely read it here in the Winter too!).

The Shampoo Effect by Jenny Jackson

A contemporary novel about friendships in a tight knit group thrown into chaos by an accidental pregnancy and one New England summer. Lizzy is reading this at the moment and absolutely loving it.

Perfect for fans of Coco Mellors or Catherine Newman!

Reese's Book Club

Reese is one of the big names in celebrity book clubs, choosing books each month that have a woman at their center and a story worth picking up in amongst all the many new releases. She has a love of stories and it all began with her simply sharing the books she was reading before snowballing into one of the biggest book clubs around.

For July Reese's book club is reading A Founding Mother which is an American novel about Revolutionary Boston and a woman who is busy raising children amongst the chaos of the outbreak of war.

Into the Blue by Emma Brodie

Blending explosive chemistry, devastating emotion and unforgettable characters, Into the Blue is an extraordinary novel that asks you to believe inthe power of telling your own story, even if you know how it's going to end.

One of the recent book club picks by Reese, Into the Blue is a stunning story romance perfect for readers who loved Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow!

Dakota Johnson's TeaTime Book Club

Dakota Johnson runs a popular bookclub through her production company, TeaTime Pictures. She has said that she often features books that she is interested in possibly optioning for film which we love, and is great at selecting books that aren't just new releases but treasures of storytelling.

The Waves by Virginia Woolf

For July Dakota has chosen a deep cut literary novel, The Waves, which is a story about a group of friends who happen to be coming of age whilst simultaneously grieving the death of a friend.

Oprah's Book Club

Ask about celebrity book clubs and you'll probably hear the name, Oprah. Books that get selected by Oprah have won the literary lotto, and she has chosen some goodies!

Little Wonder by Sophie Chen Keller

A beautiful new novel about a musical prodigy and his mother, searching for each other across years. An evocating story about the love between Mother and Son, Song and River, and the journey through a modern Beijing.

This is one I will absolutely be picking up, described as an evocative exploration of a mother’s love and a son’s yearning which takes us on an extraordinary journey through a modern Beijing that pulses with the music of humanity and its impossible and impossibly brave hopes.

I'm not sure I'll survive the story of a young boy getting separated from him mum, but I'll try!

Natalie's Book Club

Natalie Portman's book club is known for not just featuring the latest easy beach read or contemporary hit but instead selecting monthly reads that are focused on empathy and social justice.

Reflections in a Golden Eye by Carson McCullers

On a military base in 1930s Georgia, Private Ellgee Williams catches sight of his captain's wife in the nude and becomes obsessed with her.

Spare, muscular and sensual, with the dramatic vision of a Greek myth, Carson McCullers' novella is a timeless work about the alienation of forbidden desire.

On Instagram, Natalie described this book as "a compact, unsettling look at desire and repression in a closed community."

Bellatrist with Emma Roberts and Karah Preiss

Belletrist is an online reading community founded by two friends, Emma Roberts and Karah Preiss. The love of books and community come together with monthly picks, book club zooms and a substack too!

Voyagers by Meg Charlton

For July the Belletrist book club chose a speculative new novel, where a mysterious signal has arrived and chased the planet overnight. First contact or something else, this novel is about the humans who are grappling with the unexplainable and the reckoning it leads to as the world rests on a precipice.

Imaginative, ambitious, and a chance to reflect on what it is to exist at the end of the world, this book sounds right up my alley and yours too if you loved Ministry of Time or Station Eleven!
