The new week brings a new load of amazing stories to get lost in! Here are the new releases this week and the titles we are adding to our own TBR!
Fiction New Releases!
There are two key fiction books out this week that I (Lizzy) am extremely excited for. First is newest book in the local Kiwi cosy crime series, The Bookshop Detectives. Murder and Mojitos is book three in the series and looks like the perfect read for me this winter - I love the bookish setting, the small town vibes, and the cast of rather wonderful characters. My other pick this week from the new fiction titles is the beautiful and wonderfully titled, The Exquisite Torment of Loving Your Enemy. This is the sequel to one of my favourite reads last year, The Irresistible Urge to Fall For Your Enemy which is an enemies to lovers novel about a swoonworthy assasin, and a scholarly healer who is forced to help him with a rather nasty curse (things get a bit spicy). It's got excellent banter, detailed world building, and I have been so excited for book two to arrive.
We already have copies of Tempting Venom and Love Wells Kept flying out the door, people have been waiting for these to come in for a while and they are must reads if you like either darker romance (Tempting Venom) or Elsie Silver style heartwrench (Love Wells Kept). Daniel Mason is back after his popular novel, North Woods, with the brand new Country People (currently sitting on my bedside TBR!). Promising another beautifully written story about people and nature, I cannot wait to get stuck in to this one. Permanence by Sophie Mackintosh also sounds amazing, a literary romance about an affair and true love and how long a couple can keep their relationship secret.
Non-Fiction New Releases!
A few new interesting non-fiction reads arrived this week. I am currently reading The Energy Game by Dr Amantha Imber and finding it a little bit life-changing. It's all about science-backed ways to improve your energy levels with small shifts and really easy to implement gamified steps. It's a clever and very easy read and I'm already putting things in place even though I haven't finished!
The perfect gift for teachers has to be the new book from James Patterson, Thank You Teachers which highlights teachers through original interviews with them. Children of the Third Reich by acclaimed historian Catrine Clay is a fascinating but difficult read about two children both connected to a lesser talked about part of the Nazi Regime, it's eugenics programme.
Children's New Releases!
My pick this week in the world of children's fiction is How to Grow Magic: The Giant Mystery by Rachel Morrisroe. This is the first book in a brand new chapterbook series that looks wonderful for kids aged 5-8 who are just starting to read bigger stories (often a tricky category to find the right books for!). It's a whimsical story about growing magical beanstalks in a school garden, perfect for fans of Isadora Moon!
