Why bees do not see red and we sometimes feel blue
For thousands of years, colours have determined our lives. They decide about mating, food, survival and power. They have an influence on our thinking and feeling. Behind every hue lies an amazing story.
Has pink always been feminine and blue masculine? Why does orange whet our appetite? Why do we feel blue? Shades of colour accompany our lives and shape our language: we become green with envy, or remove our rose-tinted spectacles. But how did colours acquire these associations?
In this beautiful coffee table book, Why Bees Do Not See Red and We Sometimes Feel Blue, we traverse the colour spectrum with 150 remarkable stories of our experience, understanding, and theories of colour. With insights from art, nature, psychology, and science, this is an amusing, entertaining, and vibrant journey through the cultural history of colour.
