Veteran anthology editor Mike Ashley returns with a collection of rare stories by women writers from the heyday of Weird Tales and its chilling pulp contemporaries.

Featuring a riot of monsters, murderesses, and madness from a mixture of lesser-known writers and some surprises such as Lucy M. Montgomery, author of Anne of Green Gables, this new selection also includes a 1980s story by Tanith Lee, one of the great proponents of Weird Tales magazine's revival era, and a recently discovered tale by the fantasy writer Evangeline Walton.

In addition to being one of the UK's foremost cultural institutions, the British Library has a publishing arm that is dedicated to resurrecting and reintroducing the works of forgotten and under-appreciated writers, and it is them we have to thank for this fantastic volume of works by women writers whose literary endeavours fall squarely into that category.
