About the Author

Dr Aroha Harris (Te Rarawa, Ngāpuhi) MNZM, is an Associate Professor in History at Waipapa Taumata Rau—the University of Auckland. A founding member of Te Pouhere Kōrero, Aroha has also served as President of the Native American and Indigenous Studies Association and of the New Zealand Historical Association, and as a member of the Waitangi Tribunal. She is a co-author of the award-winning Tangata Whenua: An Illustrated History (BWB, 2014) and co-editor of Maranga! Maranga! Maranga! The Call to Māori History: Essays from Te Pouhere Kōrero, 1999–2023 (BWB, 2024).
