Amidst a land shrouded in the sinister grip of an insidious mist, To Kill a Shadow by Katherine Quinn unravels a tale of sacrifice, resilience, and defiance. On the day of the fateful Choosing Ceremony, young Selena Carlisle braces herself to watch her beloved brother be offered up as a sacrifice to the revered Knights of the Eternal Star. In a world where families are compelled to sacrifice their sons to protect the realm from the malevolent mist that corrupts everything it touches, Selena's fate takes an unexpected turn.

To everyone's astonishment, it is Selena, not her brother, who is chosen to join the Knights—a landmark moment as she becomes the first female in over fifty years to be selected. Selena, a formidable warrior whose spirit simmered with anger and defiance, is akin to a living weapon, determined to carve her own destiny amidst a world constrained by antiquated traditions.

As whispers ripple through the ranks of her fellow recruits, they are left in awe of Selena's agility and combat prowess, comparing her lethal speed to the shadow beasts that haunt the periphery of their ever-darkening land. Yet, the source of her strength remains a mystery, hidden behind gloves that conceal the secret of her past.

Amongst the ranks of this disparate band of warriors stands Jude Maddox, a commander respected for his ruthless efficiency and enigmatic presence. Jude sees within Selena a spark that rekindles an emotion he had long thought extinguished—a sense of hope. Despite the grim reality that many of the chosen warriors may not survive their ominous mission, Jude believes Selena possesses the potential to defy destiny's harrowing call.

With the king's decree to identify warriors capable of withstanding the mist's encroaching darkness, To Kill a Shadow paints a gripping narrative of a young woman battling to defy the odds, to transform fear into strength, and possibly, to achieve what no knight before her has accomplished—to live.

About the Author

Katherine Quinn is an adult and young adult fantasy romance author. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in psychology. She resides in Houston with her husband and three children.

Her love of writing began after reading her first fantasy series, The Song of the Lioness by Tamora Pierce. After that, she wanted nothing more than to be a dagger- wielding heroine. Unfortunately, it's frowned upon to give a child a dagger, so she settled on writing about daring adventures instead.

Coffee is her true love, and she believes anything can be fixed with Starbucks and dark humor. katherinequinnauthor.com
