About the Author

Times Books publish prestigious reference books covering a range of interests and hobbies. Educated at the universities of Oxford and Hamburg, Ian Brunskill spent the best part of a decade as a freelance writer, editor, lecturer and translator, mostly in the fields of music, literature and visual art, before joining The Times in 1991. He succeeded the political commentator Anthony Howard as Obituaries Editor in February 1999, and took on the additional duties of Letters Editor in 2005; he also edits the paper's Saturday Faith page of religious features and news. He is editor of The Times Great Lives (2005) and The Times Great Victorian Lives (2007).
