The Princess in Black by Shannon Hale and Dean Hale has been praised for its clever twist on the traditional princess narrative, featuring a self-reliant and adventurous heroine. The storyline balances humour and action, making it accessible and engaging for young readers. Its illustrations complement the narrative by blending traditional Disney-like aesthetics with a modern, cartoonish style. The book not only captivates children but also leaves them eagerly anticipating the next instalment.
