DescriptionThe Diary of Anne Frank (Abridged for Young Readers) is an extraordinary account of a young Jewish girl’s experiences during World War II, while she and her family are hiding from the Nazis. This timeless piece of literature captures the fears, hopes, and spirit of Anne Frank as she documents her daily life, thoughts, and feelings while confined to a secret annex in Amsterdam. Readers are introduced to the intimate details of Anne's world, from the mundane to the profound, as she navigates the trials of adolescence in extraordinarily perilous circumstances.
Expertly edited by Mirjam Pressler, this abridged edition is tailored to younger readers, providing a sensitive and approachable version of Anne's original diary. The book begins with a short prologue by the editor, offering context and background about Anne Frank and her diary. Throughout the text, Pressler adds a connecting commentary to guide the reader through Anne’s story, making complex historical and emotional themes accessible for a younger audience.
This edition also features beautiful line drawings and family photographs, bringing Anne’s world to life visually. These elements help to personalise Anne's experiences, allowing readers to connect with her on a deeper level. Additionally, the afterword explains the abrupt ending of the diary, providing closure and historical context to young readers.
