I haven't written for a few days, because I wanted first of all to think about my diary. It's an odd idea for someone like me to keep a diary; not only because I have never done so before, but because it seems to me that neither I nor for that matter anyone else will be interested in the unbosoming of a thirteen-year-old schoolgirl. Still, what does that matter? I want to write, but more than that, I want to bring out all kinds of things that lie buried deep in my heart.

About the Author

Anne Frank was a German-born Jewish diarist whose writings became one of the most powerful testimonies of the Holocaust. She is best remembered for The Diary of a Young Girl, which chronicles her life in hiding during World War II. From July 1942 to August 1944, Anne and her family hid in the Secret Annex in Amsterdam to escape Nazi persecution. Anne died of typhus in Bergen-Belsen in February/March 1945, at age 15. Her father, Otto Frank, was the only immediate family member to survive.
