The Choice

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

The Choice by Edith Eger is an extraordinary memoir that explores survival, hope, and the human spirit's remarkable resilience. This powerful narrative begins in 1944 with sixteen-year-old ballerina Edith Eger being transported to Auschwitz, a Nazi concentration camp. Separated from her parents upon arrival, Edith faces unimaginable horrors, including being forced to dance for the notorious Josef Mengele. Despite the unthinkable conditions, Edith’s spirit remains unbroken, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

When the camp is finally liberated, Edith is discovered barely alive, pulled from a pile of bodies. Her struggles, however, do not end with her liberation. Instead, her journey to reclaim her life and find meaning after such profound trauma becomes an equally compelling part of her story. Edith’s memoir poignantly chronicles her path towards healing, self-discovery, and empowerment. With an indomitable spirit, she transforms her suffering into a beacon of hope and a source of inspiration for countless others.

The Choice is not merely a recounting of harrowing events; it is a meditation on the power of choice, the essence of human freedom, and the possibility of renewal. This touching narrative underscores that, even in the direst of situations, hope can blossom and the future can hold immense promise.

Awarded a place on both the Sunday Times and New York Times bestseller lists, this memoir has garnered praise from luminaries worldwide:

"I'll be forever changed by her story" - Oprah Winfrey

"Extraordinary ... will stick with you long after you read it" - Bill Gates

"One of those rare and eternal stories you don't want to end" - Desmond Tutu

"A masterpiece of holocaust literature. Her memoir, like her life, is extraordinary, harrowing and inspiring in equal measure" - The Times Literary Supplement

"I can't imagine a more important message for modern times. Eger's book is a triumph" - The New York Times

The Choice is Edith Eger's unforgettable story that delves deeply into the psyche of a survivor, offering lessons not just for those who have endured the darkest of times, but for anyone seeking to understand the true nature of courage and the strength of the human spirit. This book stands as a testament to the enduring hope that can flourish even in the most unlikely places.
