The Carnival is Over
Itβs the 1970s in Moorabool and the small-town tensions are once again simmering in this thrilling follow up to Greg Woodlandβs 2020 debut
The Carnival is Over is set in 1971, and follows Hal, a seventeen-year-old dreaming of escaping Moorabool for a new life in the city. Currently, he finds himself stuck on a good behaviour bond, working a packing-room job he despises, all to pay off the car he 'borrowed' and crashed. The workplace bullies make every day a struggle, but the friendship of the older, more worldly Christine brings him solace. So when Christine doesn't show up for work, Hal is immediately concerned.
Sergeant Mick Goodenough is also worried, but he already knows what's happened to Christineβitβs the same fate that befell the newly elected deputy mayor. When another gruesome 'accident' occurs in Moorabool, Goodenough begins to suspect something sinister is at play behind the scenes at the local abattoir.
Determined to uncover the truth, Mick and Hal find themselves in grave danger, each forced to run for their life as they dig deeper into the mystery.
Greg Woodland, acclaimed author of The Night Whistler, returns with this nail-biting rural thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
