See moreSet in a near-contemporary Ireland that has been cut off for decades from the rest of the world by a ghostly fog and subjected to the terror of the Sidhe.
The Call follows Nessa and her friends who attend Boyle College to train for the most dangerous time of their lives—the Call.
Without warning, each one of them will wake in a terrifying land, alone and hunted, with a one-in-ten chance of returning alive.
Ravaged by Polio at a young age, no one believes Nessa can make it, but she's determined to prove them all wrong. She will need every ounce of spirit and courage in order to survive.
Those who return alive from the Call are always changed: most often in body, in strange and hideous ways, but also in spirit—sometimes both.
Perfect for fans of wider speculative fiction, not just where it overlaps with Young Adult.
Fantasy/Horror/Young Adult/Dystopia
This story does contain themes including ableism, sexual assault, bullying, physical assaults and torture, mental health, and brief mentions of family violence and suicidal ideation.

About the Author
Peadar O'Guilin was inspired to write The Grey Land books by the mystical beauty of northwest Ireland where he spent his early childhood. For many years, Peadar developed both a fascination and deep love for mythology and Irish legends. He describes The Call as 'my mash-up of the darker parts of Irish mythology and classic survival stories.' The Sidhe from The Grey Land books are the original people of the mounds' whom the Irish believed in for centuries.
