Shock Waves by Fleur McDonald presents an engrossing rural crime story that delves into the complexities of life in the Australian outback, intertwining gripping suspense with authentic character development. The book follows the returning protagonist, Detective Dave Burrows, who has always aspired to a leadership role in the Stock Squad. However, his rise comes under less-than-ideal circumstances, as his partner and confidant, Detective Bob Holden, battles melanoma.

Determined to maintain a sense of normalcy, both detectives gear up for what they expect will be a routine trip into the bush. But their plans are upended as a series of bomb blasts rock the peaceful town of Kallygarn. With the community in turmoil, Dave and Bob find themselves drawn deep into a web of criminal activity that threatens to unravel the very fabric of this small, close-knit society.

In Shock Waves, McDonald expertly weaves a narrative that captures the rugged beauty of rural Western Australia while exploring themes of grief, family estrangement, and the relentless pursuit of justice. The novel is more than just a crime story; it is a poignant exploration of how past traumas and present crises shape our lives and decisions.

'Nobody does rural fiction quite like Fleur McDonald.' —Weekly Times

'A family drama at heart, the book is an authentic exploration of grief, family estrangement, and life on the land. Fans of McDonald's previous novels will enjoy the return of Detective Dave Burrows.' —The AuReview.com on Voices in the Dark

McDonald's talent for creating fully realised characters and intricate plots shines through once again. Detective Dave Burrows, with his unwavering dedication and genuine likeability, encounters challenges that test his limits, both professionally and personally.

Praise for Fleur McDonald:

'It is a suspense-filled journey from open to close in this rural yarn.' —Mrs B's Book Reviews on Voices in the Dark

'A riveting rural crime story. Dave comes across as sincere and likeable. You find yourself barracking for him.' —The Burgeoning Bookshelf on Without a Doubt

'This story is so well written with suspense and mystery. With Dave's cool, calm attitude to solving cases, I was turning the pages. Although I want all the answers, I often don't want the story to end.' —Family Saga Reviews on Into the Night

'McDonald brings all her passion for the land to this rural suspense.' —Australian Women's Weekly on Something to Hide

'Something To Hide ramps up the tension to new heights as Dave lays everything he loves, believes in, and dreams of on the line to bring justice. Fleur McDonald has come up with a ripper of a storyline that is going to be hard to follow.' —Blue Wolf Reviews

For readers who cherish rural settings combined with compelling crime narratives, Shock Waves offers a powerful, page-turning experience that serves as a testament to Fleur McDonald’s mastery of the genre.
