People and Environment

This is a new edition of Human Geography: Behavioural Approaches (1984). The title has been changed to emphasise that the book considers how behavioural approaches can complement other approaches in the overall study of people-environment interaction.

It offers a comprehensive synthesis, highlighting both structural and behavioural approaches to the study of people-environment interaction. Special attention is paid to the interplay between social and spatial structures and human agency.

It also illustrates the value of the various approaches in understanding people-environment interaction through detailed examination of five key aspects of life, demonstrating the importance of choice and constraint in human use of the environment.
