Palm Beach style is the expression of elegance and romance everywhere evident in this paradise and epitomized in the lives and work of architect John Volk and artist-preservationist Jane Volk. Together they conjured up much of the magic that now makes the place. The book explores this unique chemistry and the dazzling homes that are the result.

John Volk was one of the "big five" architects of Palm Beach. During his sixty years of practice, he was commissioned to design over 2,000 projects, including the Royal Poinciana Plaza and additions to the Everglades Club. This book delves into the Volks' lives and their part in creating the enchantment with which Palm Beach continues to captivate.
Palm Beach, among other things, is defined by its architecture. Red tile roofs and cast stone columns suggest Mediterranean influences, with evidence of inspirations from Spain and Morocco. After the economic collapse of 1929, classical architectural orders started appearing on columns and porticos. The Bermuda style and Modernism emerged later. While John Volk did not confine himself to one style, he perfected many, leaving an architectural legacy visible on almost every street in Palm Beach.
While this book honours John Volkβs architecture and his substantial impact, it also celebrates Jane Volkβs contributions to Palm Beach and her dedication to preserving the town's historic character.
