One of the Good Guys

One of the Good Guys tells the story of Cole, who is the epitome of a perfect husband: romantic, supportive of his wife's career, enthusiastic about being a hands-on dad, and not prone to heavy drinking. Simply put, a good guy.

So, when his wife leaves him, Cole is floored. In his mind, she was fortunate to be with a man like him.

In search of solitude, Cole takes up a job on the coast and quickly adapts to his new life. It is there that he meets Lennie, a reclusive artist. Though she is quite different from what he had anticipated, he believes he has finally found a soulmate.

However, as their relationship unfolds, the disappearance of two young women on a walk protesting gendered violence rattles the community, especially given the proximity to where Cole and Lennie reside. As they find themselves at the centre of a police investigation and media storm, Cole starts to realise that their acquaintance might not be as well-founded as he believed.

The narrative challenges us to ponder: if most men consider themselves as one of the good guys, then why do so many women feel fearful about walking alone at night?
