Modigliani by Albertina Wien, Marc Resttellini, and Klaus Albrecht Schröder explores the impactful life and art of Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920), who moved to Paris as a 22-year-old art student and became known as one of the last true bohémien figures in Montmartre.

This exhibition catalogue, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Modigliani's death, presents him as a pivotal figure in the avant-garde movement, bringing the revolution of Primitivism into the 20th century. His renowned nudes, distinctive portraits, and singular sculptures are showcased alongside works by Pablo Picasso, Constantin Brâncusi, and André Derain, as well as artefacts from so-called "primitive" cultures.

The volume places a special emphasis on Modigliani's lifelong study of Primitivism, a field that deeply interested both him and his contemporaries who influenced his artistic journey. Readers will be treated to approximately 100 works, including numerous key pieces by Modigliani, sourced from major museums and prominent private collections spanning from America to Asia.
