Me Talk Pretty One Day
'He's like an American Alan Bennett, in that his own fastidiousness becomes the joke, as per the taxi encounter, or his diary entry about waiting interminably in a coffee-bar queue' Guardian review of An Evening with David Sedaris
*Ongoing author PR activity to include media interviews, appearances at festivals and events *Ad campaign in The Guardian and The Times *Submitted for trade promotions *Reading copies available
David Sedaris' move to Paris from New York inspired these hilarious pieces, including the title essay, about his attempts to learn French from a sadistic teacher who declares that "every day spent with you is like having a caesarean section".
His family is another inspiration. You Can't Kill the Rooster is a portrait of his brother, who talks incessant hip-hop slang to his bewildered father.
No one hones a finer fury in response to such modern annoyances as restaurant meals presented in ludicrous towers of food and cashiers with six-inch fingernails.

David Sedaris' Me Talk Pretty One Day is highly praised for its sharp and humorous observations on human behaviour. The collection of essays combines memoir and fiction, offering sophisticated comedy rooted in Sedaris' life experiences in North Carolina and his adventures in France. Critics admire his ability to make the mundane hilariously compelling, with particular appreciation for his wry, sardonic voice and his clever takes on language and communication challenges. The book is often described as side-splittingly funny, with Sedarisβ keen eye for the ridiculous providing a delightful respite for readers.
