A monograph on Marina Abramovic's work with crystals, a part of her practice that is still underexplored

Marina Abramovic: Transforming Energy explores Abramovic's belief in the power of crystals to store the whole history of the earth and their ability to carry and transmit energy. These crystals are predominantly associated with her 'Transitory Objects,' a series of creations intended to embody energy and spark physical and mental experiences in the public through direct interaction, installations, and exhibitions.

The book is inspired by one of Abramovic's most iconic performances, her 1988 walk across the Great Wall of China with German artist Ulay. It is published in conjunction with the comprehensive exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Shanghai and includes previously unseen images of this Great Wall walk, alongside a series of captivating new artworks specifically created for the exhibition.

Edited by Shai Baitel, the Artistic Director of MAM Shanghai, in close collaboration with Abramovic, the book narrates the story of how she discovered and explored the power of stones and crystals. Her journey began during her performance across the Great Wall with Ulay and continued as she visited mines across Brazil.
