Editor Susan Ryeland receives a tattered manuscript from Alan Conway, one of the country's most esteemed crime writers, and she has little idea that this will drastically alter her life forever. Over the years, Susan has developed a strong familiarity with Conway's work, particularly his famous detective, Atticus Pünd, celebrated for solving crimes in the deceptively quiet English villages of the 1950s. These vintage crime novels consistently perform well on the market, but dealing with the enigmatic and often challenging Conway is another matter entirely.

As Susan delves into Conway’s latest manuscript, set in the quaint and seemingly idyllic village of Saxby-on-Avon, she encounters yet another intriguing mystery. A murder has taken place at Pye Hall, and the suspect list is long and puzzling. Susan recognizes the familiar elements of a classic whodunit—dead bodies, suspicious characters, hidden motives—but soon realises there's something much deeper and intricately clever intertwined within the story.

Conway's manuscript seems to conceal another narrative altogether, one that presents a chilling reflection of reality with its own tale of jealousy, greed, and ruthless ambition. As the dual mysteries unfold within the pages, Susan finds herself drawn into solving a real-life conundrum that may hold dangerous consequences, blurring the lines between fiction and real jeopardy.

Magpie Murders, from Sunday Times bestseller Anthony Horowitz, is a beautifully crafted homage to the vintage crime genre, enriched with a modern and darkly twisted edge. Horowitz’s intricate storytelling and clever plotting keep readers on tenterhooks, blending a gripping mystery within another mystery, ensuring that every turn of the page yields a new discovery and a deeper intrigue.

This isn't just another crime novel—it's an intricately woven tapestry of suspense that enthralls and delights, providing a fresh take on the genre while paying tribute to its timeless allure. With echoes of Agatha Christie and the exploration of storytelling itself, Magpie Murders promises a compelling and utterly immersive reading experience.
