A Line to Kill is lauded for its clever mix of humour and detective work, reminiscent of classic golden-age whodunits. Reviewers highlight the dynamic relationship between the characters, akin to Holmes and Watson, and praise Horowitz's skill in misdirection and self-deprecating portrayal within a satirical take on the publishing world. The novel is noted for its conventional mystery style, elevated with Horowitz's unique flair.
