Log Cabin Quilt Blocks
100 contemporary patchwork designs using the popular log cabin block.
100 contemporary patchwork designs using the popular log cabin block, ideal for anyone wanting a modern take on this famous block.
One of the most widely used patchwork techniques, the log cabin block consists of sewing strips of fabric—the logs—around a central square. In Log Cabin Quilt Blocks, textile artist Catherine-Marie Longtin guides the reader through 100 contemporary designs of this much-loved technique.
The variations are infinite, both within the blocks and in the way they are arranged together. This book explores the vast range of possibilities of this single block by manipulating the multiple parameters within it, such as using contrasting colours, design, textures and materials.
The book starts with an inspirational showcase of the block designs that can either be recreated as they are, or used as inspiration for creating your own designs.
Techniques include:
- How to create 4-, 3- and 2-sided blocks, quarter circles, courthouse steps, rectangle and triangle designs.
- How to use double strips to create striking graphic effects.
- How to create more texture with foundation piecing.
- How to make the most of the qualities of specific materials, such as shot linen fabrics and much more...
Techniques and step-by-step instructions show how to make the blocks, while a comprehensive block directory includes diagrams of each block, along with exact measurements of each strip of fabric. Once completed, the blocks can be stitched together to create unique quilts of various designs.
