Description
Ingenious by Richard Munson delves into the life of Benjamin Franklin, one of the foremost scientists of his era. Driven by an insatiable curiosity, Franklin conducted cutting-edge research on electricity, heat, ocean currents, weather patterns, chemical bonds, and plants. Despite these significant contributions, modern recollection often favours his political prowess and diplomatic achievements over his scientific ingenuity.
In this incisive and rich account, Munson revives this crucial aspect of Franklin's story, highlighting his modern relevance. He offers a compelling portrait of Franklin as a shrewd experimenter, clever innovator, and visionary physicist. Franklin's fame in science opened pivotal doors, enabling negotiations for French support and funding crucial to American independence.
Munson's riveting narrative reveals how science underpins Franklin's entire journey, from tradesman to inventor to nation-founder. The book argues that Franklin's political life cannot be fully appreciated without acknowledging his extraordinary scientific achievements.
