In Darkling Wood by Emma Carroll tells the intriguing tale of Alice, a girl whose life takes an unexpected turn when her brother receives the opportunity for a heart transplant. As a result, Alice is whisked away to her estranged grandmother Nell's house.

Although staying with Nell is far from ideal, Alice is captivated by the enchanting Darkling Wood at the end of her grandmother's garden. However, Nell has plans to have it cut down, threatening the magical haven Alice has come to cherish.

In the wood, Alice discovers a sense of peace and even makes a friend named Flo. Yet, oddly enough, Flo doesn't attend the local school, and the townspeople have never heard of her. As Flo reveals the enchanting secrets of Darkling Wood, Alice begins to question what is real.

Driven by the desire to save the wood from destruction, Alice embarks on a journey to uncover its mysteries, seeking answers before it's too late. Can Alice unveil the truth in time to protect the magical world she has grown to love?
