Gingerbread Dreidels
"When Christmas and the first night of Chanukah occur on the same day, all of Sophie and Max's grandparents come over to partake in both Jewish and Christian traditions together"--
Gingerbread Dreidels by Thai Phuong and Jane Breskin Zalben brings together Chanukah and Christmas in a heartwarming story about a blended holiday within an interfaith, intergenerational family.
Experience the magic of gelt and gingerbread, menorahs and trees, combining red and green with blue and white. This year, Christmas and the first night of Chanukah occur on the same day, leaving Sophie and Max feeling confused.
The children are accustomed to celebrating the different parts of their identity separately, spending time with each part of their family in turn. However, this year marks a change as all their grandparents gather to embrace both Jewish and Christian traditions together.
Through a sweet acknowledgment of a concern that occupies the minds of Sophie and Max—how this joint celebration might affect their presents—Gingerbread Dreidels offers a touching narrative for interfaith families. It beautifully illustrates that love lies at the heart of every holiday celebration.
