Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Hailed as one of the most significant figures of early Modernism and at the same time condemned for his work and his morals, the discussion about Gauguin, his art, and his character is still relevant today. This is especially true at a time when the #MeToo movement is shedding new light on Gauguin's relationships with adolescent girls and his role in colonialism in French Polynesia.

Gauguin - The Master, the Monster and the Myth is the first in-depth biography about the artist written by a Danish writer. The publication shares new insights about Gauguinβ€”his complex character as both an artist and a human being. It challenges the traditional ideas we have about his life and work.

Flemming Friborg unfolds the fascinating story of Gauguin's life and the milieu of Impressionism that he was part of, while also distinguishing himself from it. The book illustrates how his methods and morals were bound in a carefully maintained personal brand, leading to the conclusion that the master and the monster are inseparable. As a result of this, Gauguin's legacy and status as a genius artist remain unclear.
