Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Fodor’s Southern California offers a competitive advantage with more maps, including a free pullout map, than other guidebooks to the region and detailed road trip itineraries not found in competitor guides.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 caused a steep drop-off in tourism to many destinations, but surveys have shown an ongoing interest in international travel once it becomes safe again. The number of Americans traveling domestically and overseas is expected to increase in mid-2021, once vaccinations have been administered to a wide variety of people. Most of California experienced record-high tourism levels in 2019, according to Visit California. However, a lack of business travellers may mean that tourists can still find bargains, especially in major cities, throughout 2022.

Fully Redesigned! The new front cover features eye-catching full-bleed images with key selling points, while the back cover is fully redesigned. “Best of” lists will visually engage the reader, providing an overview of the entire destination including the best things to eat, see, do, and drink, as well as what to read and watch before going.

The book is visually focused, with more colour and images, including more full and half-page images throughout and colour-coded category icons. Other useful features include Great Itineraries, Walking Tours, Calendar of Events, and "What to Watch and Read Before Your Trip". The “Travel Smart” section, containing logistical planning tips, is now at the front of the book, redesigned to be more infographic in feel.

Fodor’s guides have a stronger voice and opinions, giving them more personality. They are more friendly and conversational in tone, going beyond informational to being inspirational.

Curated and Relevant: The guide offers focused coverage on only the best places so travellers can make the most out of their limited time, with carefully vetted recommendations for all types of establishments and price points.

Concise: Reviews are shortened for brevity and focus.

Please see additional key selling points in the book's main description.
