Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Farid Belkahia: or Art at Liberty explores the life and work of Farid Belkahia (1934-2014), widely regarded as one of the founders of contemporary art in Morocco. From the 1960s onwards, he invested in artistic research across multiple forms of expression and engaged in fundamental research to discover new modes of accessing modernity.

For more than sixty years, Belkahia pursued an artistic journey filled with changes in direction, challenges, and bold renewals. Committed to complete creative freedom and ongoing reconquest, he crafted an opus that resonates with his natural and cultural surroundings.

This collection of essays results from an initiative by the Fondation Farid Belkahia, established by Rajae Benchemsi, the artist's wife, to preserve and promote his work and memory. The book compiles contributions from participants of the international symposium held in Marrakesh, Morocco, in 2016, celebrating the inauguration of the foundation and its museum.

The volume serves as an opportunity to explore diverse perspectives and share insights regarding Farid Belkahia and his oeuvre. It demonstrates that as an artist, he has finally secured his rightful place in the new narrative of modernity that is yet to be fully written.
